April was best ever On-Time Month for LIRR

The MTA Long Island Rail Road announces an on-time performance record with the best ever AM peak month since modern on-time record keeping began almost 30 years ago.

The 98.35% morning peak on-time average for April was almost one percent higher than the previous record high (97.41% set in May & July of ‘05). The overall April monthly on-time of 95.97% was the second best since 1979.

“This latest On-Time Performance record proves, once again, that LIRR employees are committed to providing the best customer service in the country,” said LIRR President Helena Williams. “The LIRR is already the largest commuter rail road in North America and we strive every day to be the best as well. I congratulate our employees for their effort.”

Last year the LIRR achieved its best overall on-time-performance (OTP) ever, at 94.07%. The previous best annual overall OTP was 94.04% in 2002. The 2007 record was achieved while operating almost five percent more trains (244,565) annually than in 2002 (233,301).

The first four months of the year (through 4/30), an overall on-time-performance of 95.54% was achieved.
