Commerce Bank & Trader Joes in Merrick both Robbed

Last week, an unknown person/s robbed the Commerce Bank branch and Trader Joe’s on Merrick Road in Merrick.

On Friday, May 2, around 10:20 AM, a man entered the Commerce Bank branch at 2260 Merrick Road in Merrick. The man displayed a silver handgun and demaned money. The teller complied and the suspect left with an unknown amount of money. The man was last seen on foot traveling southbound on Fox Boulevard. Nine employees and five customers were in the bank at the time of the robbery. No injuries reported.

The suspect is described as a male around 30, 5′7”-8”. He was wearing a dark jacket and hat with brim.

Also, on Friday, May 2, around 9 PM, a man entered the Trader Joe’s grocery store on 1714 Merrick Road in Merrick. The man placed a black backpack on the counter and displayed a silver revolver to a manager. The suspect said “Give me all the money, put it in the bag;” the manager complied and the man left the store in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5′8”, 170 lbs, with a mole on his right cheek. He was wearing a baggy gray sweatshirt and green baseball hat.
