Yesterday, May 12, Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman announced that his office completed the County’s first ever “paperless audit”.
The County’s new paperless system utilizes a software program called “Teammate” and was first used for an audit that focused on the County’s Purchasing Department’s time and leave system.
“Paperless audits represent not only a major step in efficiency for our auditors, but also for the environment, as this office now saves reams of paper on each audit,” Weitzman said. “The new paperless system also means easier storage and retrieval of information and reduced expense.”
Past audits could often use over 60 lbs of paper in numerous binders. The information would then be stored in a warehouse with County records for years. The new auditing program produces almost no paper and stores all information electronically. Weitzman said that he is working on converting all audits to the paperless system by the end of 2008.
In related news, Comptroller Weitzman has been named Nassau Community College Adjunct Faculty Association’s Man of the Year Award for 2008. The Comptroller will be honored at the AFA Spring Conference on May 24 at 11:30 a.m. at the Chateau Briand in Carle Place. Initiatives like the NassauRx card, a discount drug program for residents and the Comptroller’s numerous audits of special districts which uncovered millions of dollars in waste and abuse, and his support of the Adjunct Faculty Association are just a few of the reasons that the board supported Weitzman as its “Man of the “Year.”
