Governor David A. Paterson announces this week is Safe Boating and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week in the Sate of New York.
Safe Boating Week
Each year, residents and visitors to New York’s waterfront communities enjoy safe recreational boating with their friends and families, spending almost $2 billion annually, which generates a positive impact on the State’s economy.
All boaters and participants in water activities should be aware of the risks that exist upon the water and are reminded to practice safe and responsible habits, including completing a safe boating course, wearing a life jacket, properly equipping and inspecting their vessel, maintaining a prudent speed, and never mixing alcohol with boating.
New York State continues to work with it’s partners – including the United States Coast Guard, the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, the U.S. Power Squadrons, the National Safe Boating Council, and many state and local law enforcement units, along with other boating safety enthusiasts – the state also joins the rest of the country in the observance of National Safe Boating Week.
Emergency Medical Services
The well-organized system of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a vital public entity that serves as a safety net for the health care system in New York. During times of emergency, such access to quality care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury.
The Governor asks that during this weeklong observance it is appropriate for each and every citizen to recognize the vigilance, selflessness, and invaluable work carried out by EMS providers in communities across this great State by extending our sincere gratitude to all members of this critical area of public service.
