Nassau County selling it’s surplus equipment & materials

The Nassau County Office of Purchasing has announced it will be using an online auction website to sell surplus county property.

The website, Auctions International, is a respected on-line auctions company headquartered in Buffalo, NY who specializes in selling surplus property for government agencies.

Nassau County is selling thousands of items from 4 different county-owned properties. Some of the items include; a 30 ft patrol boat, a weather station, generators, vehicles, 35 road plows, 5 pianos, tools, electrical & plumbing supplies, street lamps, scrap metals and two dozen office-type furniture from One West Street, the old Executive and Legislature Building.

“For years the culture at Nassau County was, ‘let’s make sure we have enough in stock to meet any need’. Departments worked independently and made separate purchases with little or no strategic coordination,” stated Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi. “We need to end the purchasing practice of spending just to spend.”
