Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes are “Havin’ A Party” in Hempstead Town as we celebrate our nation’s independence with a great night of horn-driven rock and soul music.

Southside Johnny is Johnny Lyon — singer, harmonica player, and songwriter who has fronted his band, The Asbury Jukes, since 1972. Southside Johnny first achieved prominence in the mid-1970s as the second act to emerge from the Jersey Shore music scene, following Bruce Springsteen. More than 100 musicians can claim to have been members of The Asbury Jukes. In fact, John’s long-time friend Jon Bon Jovi was a member of the Jukes and toured with the band in 1989. Southside has performed with a wide array of musicians during his career, including luminaries Bruce Springsteen, “Miami” Steven Van Zandt and Tom Waits. In all, Southside Johnny has released 29 albums in the four decades of the Jukes’ existence, including the December 2006 four-CD box set release, “The Jukebox”.

Southside’s hits include “We’re Havin’ A Party”, “I Don’t Want to Go Home”, “The Fever”, “Talk to Me”, “Hearts of Stone”, “Love on the Wrong Side of Town”, “All I Want is Everything”, “I’m So Anxious”, “Long Distance” and “Vertigo”.

The Asbury Jukes are Bobby Bandiera (guitar), Muddy Shews (bass), Jeff Kazee (keyboard), Joe Bellia (drums) and horn section members Mark Pender (trumpet), Chris Anderson (trumpet), Richie “LaBamba” Rosenberg (trombone), Joey Stann (saxophone) and Eddie Manion (saxophone). Both Pender and LaBamba are members of the Max Weinberg 7, the house band of the Late Night With Conan O’Brien Show, and each toured with Springsteen’s Sessions Band in 2006.

Prior to the concert, the Town of Hempstead will hold its annual Salute to Veterans ceremony, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be followed by a fireworks display by Bay Fireworks.
