What’s Next for the Wantagh School District?

June 17, 2008

From the Wantagh School District Website,

Total School Budget:

Actual, 2007/2008: 60,079,250

Proposed, 2008/2009: 64,735,634 (7.75% Increase)

What happens in the event the budget is not approved?

By law the Board must adopt a contingency budget which cannot exceed the lesser of the CPI multiplied by 120% or 4 %. The mandated approximate $1.5 million of additional cuts would involve loss of teaching staff (larger class sizes), district sports, extracurricular clubs, students’ supplies, community use of buildings and grounds, equipment, after-school programs and many course offerings.
