A 57 year-old dad and North Merrick Volunteer Firefighter was arrested this week for trying to have sexual relations with a 14 year-old girl he met online. The alleged victim was actually undercover NYPD Detective.

MTA: Gov. Paterson and MTA Announce Sustainability Initiatives

Yesterday, at Grand Central Terminal, Governor David A. Paterson joined MTA Executive Director and CEO Elliot G. Sander and Chairman H. Dale Hemmerdinger to announced a series of sustainability initiatives that the authority will pursue to further reduce its impact on the environment, including its carbon footprint. The initiatives were part of the interim recommendations released today by the Commission on Sustainability and the MTA. The Commission, chaired by Jonathan F.P. Rose, was created in September 2007 by the MTA to help the authority – which already plays a vital role in reducing the region’s environmental impact – take a leadership role in promoting sustainability.

MTA to host live online Q & A

Tomorrow,  the Metropolitan Transportation Authority  Executive Director and CEO Elliot G Sander and his senior staff will host the first of four ”webinars“, or online seminars. On April 9th, between Noon and 1 PM, on mta.info, the MTA will discuss and answer questions on proposed Capital Programs. No registration is required. Participants will be able to submit questions on the MTA website to be answered verbally by Mr. Sander and MTA staff on the live broadcast.


State Assembly Rejects Congestion Plan

The New York City Congestion Pricing Plan has died.

In conference, behind closed doors today, New York State Assembly members rejected Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s proposal. The plan never made it to the Assembly floor, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver refused to bring it up for vote due to a lack of support. To qualify for $ 354.5 million in federal funds the State Legislature had until midnight tonight to pass the controversial measure. The federal funds would’ve been used for immediate mass transit improvements.
